Project Data

Year: 2014
Place: Logroño (La Rioja)
Country: Spain
Type of Laboratories: Research
Services: Lab Planning & Equipment
Segment: Nutrition / Research
Burdinola has equipped the laboratories of the new headquarters of the ICVV, located at the La Grajera estate, in Logroño. This research centre, specialising in viticulture and oenology, was created by the Government of La Rioja, the CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) and the University of La Rioja, with the objective of generating new knowledge and technologies to serve as a basis for developing the viticulture/viniculture sector, becoming an indispensable point of reference for vine and wine R&D.

The new ICVV headquarters includes several buildings and different areas: the institutional winery, the administrative building and the science building, where in turn there is a laboratory building and an experimental winery, which also includes support laboratories.

The laboratory building has a surface area of 4,800 square metres distributed over three floors, dedicated to research on oenology and viticulture. It includes two large sections of four laboratories each, due to the fact that the scientific activity is organised into two departments, viticulture and oenology, divided into four specialities. In the viticulture section, the laboratories are dedicated to genomic analysis, the biology of production and interaction with the physical environment, the biology of the interactions between the vine and the biological environment and the technology of wine production. In the oenology section, the laboratories are used to investigate oenological microbiology and biotechnology, oenological chemistry and analysis, oenological technology and engineering and wine and health.

In the experimental winery building, Burdinola has also equipped the research support laboratories: the winery laboratory, microscopy, microbiological cultures, plant cultures and instrumental analysis.

Overall, a dozen open research teams comprised of a hundred participating professionals will work in the ICVV laboratories.
