The Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBIS ) , was established on March 24, 2006 under an agreement signed by the Ministry of Health of the Government of Andalusia, the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Enterprise of Andalusia, the Andalusian Health Service , the University of Seville , and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
The IBIS is conceived as a multidisciplinary biomedical research space within the complex that houses the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital , which provides a high level of care , teaching and research , in order to carry out internationally competitive research on the causes of the most prevalent conditions in the population and the development of new methods of diagnosis and treatment for the same conditions.

The IBIS is based on fundamental research at the molecular or cellular level with the goal of immediate transfer of knowledge to clinical reality , while enhancing the quality of clinical and epidemiological research.
